Craftmanship in Medical Education
Presentation Abstract
This year marks my tenth anniversary at the Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong. I am honored to have received the Faculty Education Award and University Education Award in 2024, and to be nominated for the UGC teaching award. I view medical care as a craft, where every clinician should excel in serving society. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the traditional apprenticeship model, focusing on competency-based craftsmanship and experiential learning. This approach emphasizes practical, hands-on experiences, which are central to my teaching in acute medicine, clinical ethics, communication, and medical professionalism.
The advent of educational technologies, from user-friendly e-learning platforms and high-quality video recording equipment to advanced virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI), offers exciting opportunities to enhance my experiential learning framework. I look forward to sharing my journey of nurturing craftsmanship in medical education.
